Mayan-Inspired Spa Treatments Help Lose Weight At Grand Velas Riviera Maya’s Award-Winning Spa
Riviera Maya, Mexico (August 30, 2016)
The spa at the AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya is not just authentic in its natural cenote design but also it features many treatments inspired by the Mayan culture. Guests can even drop pounds like the Mayans with the spa's native-inspired offerings, an Artisan Stones Treatment and Bacal Massage, that assist with weight loss.
Inspired by ancestral knowledge, the Artisan Stones Treatment (80 min / $342 USD) uses volcanic minerals that help shape and firm body tissue, defining one's outline. The body treatment begins with an exfoliant that helps to remove the dead cells and activate the circulation. The therapist then applies a concentrate of caffeine and proline in specific zones, making a reductive massage. A body mud is then applied that helps to tone the body followed by a massage using a volcanic stones. A one-of-a-kind cultural journey, the therapist and spa guest make the stones together with Vagheggi's Dioriti volcanic mineral dust, connecting them through positive energy.
A tribute to the ancestors with one of their most sacred plants, corn, the Bacal Massage (50 min / $236 USD) traces back to Mayan cultural roots. The authentic treatment begins with a soothing exfoliation made with ground corn and honey that detoxifies the skin. Mayan corncobs tenderized in copal-scented steam are then used during a full-body massage. Lymphatic drainage techniques are employed in specific problem areas, flushing cellulite and decreasing swelling.
