Grand Velas Riviera Maya and Cocina de Autor: Recipients of the AAA Five Diamond Award
On Wednesday, January 8th 2014 the Five Diamond Award was presented by the American Automobile Association (AAA) at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. The award is given to hotels and restaurants that meet the highest luxury standards in both facilities and service, as confirmed by expert inspectors.
The resort received the award for the fourth consecutive year; this signifies a great achievement, as less than 3% of the 60 thousand properties evaluated each year have earned this distinction.
Grand Velas' gourmet restaurant Cocina de Autor also obtained its first Five Diamond award, in recognition of the truly extraordinary culinary experience provided at the hands of Chef Xavier Pérez Stone. In addition to being listed among the "100 Best New Food and Drink Experiences" by Food and Wine Magazine and "Best Hotel Restaurant" at the Travel + Leisure Gourmet Awards, it is the only All-Inclusive hotel restaurant in the world to receive Five Diamonds.
Among the attendees and main presenters were Tony Perrone, AAA representative for the region; Fernando Garcia Rosette, Director of Grand Velas Riviera Maya; Laura Fernandez Piña, Secretary of Tourism for the state of Quintana Roo, the resort's Management Committee and important members of the press.
In previous years, restaurants Frida (gourmet Mexican cuisine) and Piaf (French cuisine) have also been recognized with Four Diamonds; titles which they hold to this date.
